Advisory Committee on Education in the
Colonies on this general question will
be forwarded to you in due course. It
was thought more convenient to deal
separately with the questions raised by
the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

I referred Sir William Hornell's
Minute and your despatch to my Advisory
Committee on Education, and they considered
the subject at two meetings, at the first
of which Sir Cecil Clementi, K. C.M.G., Sir
R. F. Johnston, C.M.G., C.B.E., Professor
W. E. Soothill, M.A., and Mr. A.H. Crook,
O.B.E., who had been invited to be present,
participated in the discussion.

The Committee passed the following
resolutions on the subject:-
(a) "The Committee support the Vice-Chancellor
in his proposals for the entrance examination
to Hong Kong University, but would draw attention
to the consequential alterations which appear
to be necessary in the school curriculum.
(b) The Committee are impressed with the
desirability of founding a faculty for the study
of Chinese literature worthy of the University,
